Dear Prudence,

I know that you will never leave me.

I know you will never judge me.

I know that as emotionally exhausting as our relationship can be, you will never get tired of me.

You don’t expect anything of me, but You accept ALL of me.

Your love is purely unconditional.

You respect me.

There is no hierarchy here, we are one.

I am not certain of anything else in this world, not even of who I am.

The ONLY thing i am positive about is that this craft is mine.

People can take my love, my joy, my tears, my treasures…. But my writing….never.

Notebook, you carry the words that are embedded in my soul and through you, I am born again.

A five part special series on PBS. Let’s educate ourselves.

Capitalism. Greed. Selfishness. These are all things that have taken over the United States. America is run more like a corporation than it is a country, and on September 17,2011, a group of protesters decided that enough is enough and took their protest to Wall Street here in NYC… the mecca of capitalism.

We have all heard the phrase “History repeats itself”one time or another. Well, if this is true, we know that powerful empires have a tendency to collapse (Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Arabic…you get the picture). This thought has brought me to the clear realization that the American Empire is dwindling into nonexistence, following the steps as its powerful predecessors. This economic powerhouse that was built on the values of freedom and equality has morphed into a monster of greed and corruption. Death penalty laws, ubiquitous law enforcement cameras, foreclosures, life long debt, unemployment, and continued racism against minority groups does not seem very free OR equal to me. Seems more like the worlds in 1984 and Brave New World….

Free trade, the idea introduced to the world by Adam Smith in opposition to the Communist ideas of Karl Marx, can be considered the basis of our current economic policies. It was all fine and dandy until corporations began attaining more power than even some sovereign states. Fast forward to 2011, and you can actively see the decline of a system that CLEARLY does not work.

The current unemployment rate in the United States is at an all time high, almost reaching what it was during the Great Depression (enter pun to history repeating itself here…). We are involved in a two-front war in Iraq and Afghanistan, and not on the best terms with countless other countries. Our national debt is the highest it has ever been. Families are losing their homes, college students graduate with debt that they spend their entire lives trying to pay off, pensions are being taken away…the list goes on and on. There are 400 people that control most of the country’s money, as they are the wealthy 1%. How does that make any sense? Why are the rest of the people, the 99%, not doing anything about the greed of the rich? The beneficiaries of this Capitalist system have NO CONSEQUENCES…all of their unlawful, immoral, corrupt stock sharing, invenstment banking, and corporation owning affects US (THE 99%) negatively….NOT THEM. It is time for a REVOLUTION.

How long can we stand for a system that never puts the interest of the 99% as a top priority?? This is what our brothers and sisters (or as the ignorant, corporately owned media calls them, “hippies without a cause”) are occupying Wall street for. They are the 99% what have had ENOUGH of corporate greed. Enough of being brainwashed by the government and corporate advertisements. Enough of paying significantly more taxes than the wealthy who can afford it. Enough of being laid off. Enough of having to make their children sacrifice a good education…..ENOUGH!!!!!! These people are our heroes. they are sleeping outside in tents, chanting, organizing, marching, protesting…. for US.

I recently visited the site at Zuccotti Park and was overwhelmed by the sense of urgency and peace. It was truly amazing and I felt so very grateful to them. As I chanted along with them to what seems to be the coin phrase of the movement : “We are the 99%!”, I knew…this falling empire is going to have to answer to the people or it will lay in ruins faster than predicted.

We the people of the United States of America……..are tired of waiting for the change we voted for. THIS IS WHAT DEMOCRACY LOOKS LIKE.
